Hearing a car horn honk and thinking it is a sign you ought to walk in the direction of the honk is irrational; but to think to oneself, “horn honk… busyness… business... jovial times—walk in that direction, toward the horn” makes perfect sense, and to think in terms of symbols and then to respond thoughtfully is a magic secret.
